Varnish, sludge and thickened engine oil in the crankcase and lubrication system can result in sticking hydraulic lifters and valves, restricted lubricant supply, partial seizure between piston and cylinder walls, crankshaft and camshaft journals and bearings. This may result in cranking overload, scoring of cylinder walls or total seizure of the engine.
